"Man Critical After Being Suspended From Ceiling at S&M Club"
http://www.wnbc.com/news/15254708/detail.html

Accidents happen.

Not really good for the community image. It sucks that it happened...
but it sucks more that the news got ahold of it.

Was wondering where you had gotten to.
I dont know as much as the post played it for pushing papers the backlash by other publications at the sheer sleaze of the post has far outweighed any real pushing of the story as anything more than a momentary and already forgotten filler for a slow news day

"Detectives are trying to determine how long the man was left alone once tied up"

"told investigators that they had checked on the man in regular intervals after he had been bound and suspended"

Compared to Dov and you, I'm much less experienced with suspension, but from the very short article, those parts screamed "This is where you go from tingly hands to hospitalization". If more of this story surfaces, I'd be quite interested in seeing how regular and lengthy those intervals were.

Actualy its stupider then that the post continued to follow the story and it turns out he wasn't suspended. Essentially he was on the metal wheel they have at nutcracker standing in high heels and a rope to the dog collar around his neck. He lost a shoe and kinda slow strangled himself on the collar.
The wheal by the way is on an angles so you lay on it rather than are suspended by it.

The Pro Domme called 911 and the post followed the story and when the guy woke up they interviewed him in his still confused state and even called his wife to out him.

Well then, I take it back about tingly hands. That goes squarely in the "WTF were you thinking category". I mean, sans the wheel, that's been used as a torture technique. Put someone up on tiptoes/blocks of wood/untenable position above flatfoot resting, rope/noose around neck and let them slow strangle themselves till they admit to sins/give up enemy codes/etc. I can see the appeal for fear play, but then the whole leaving thing pushes it from "Ok let's freak you out about potentially strangling yourself" to "ok, likely you will slip and start to strangle yourself, and if you're lucky, I'll check on you within 2 minutes before you pass out".

mmm no yur ver reaching here. This was im humiliating you and tying you up. thats about it no real intent to strangle the person. the wheel is slanted your pretty much laying on your back on it. you can slide down if you wre standing on something like shoes and you lost one as is the case here.

according to the article which i put no faith in as to accuracy the rope wasn't attached to the wheel but to something away from the wheel the wheel there can be locked off and usually is and they didn't say anything about it turning freely.

Stupid as things may have been and maybe she should have stayed in the room or checked more frequently I do still have to give them some kudos. They called 911 they didn't just panic run away and dump the body.

Its the one thing the cops probably took into account then they didnt press charges. The police unlike the Post took a very nuanced and enlightened view pointing out that waht was going on wasn't illegal and that the people had acted properly despite the bad situation.

Fair enough. I'm a bit knee-jerk when it comes to leaving people alone in bondage as you might have noticed ;). For me, if a scene requires the sense of leaving someone alone, I just use a tiny wireless camera I've fitted into the handle of an old flogger. I can be outside the room, and see every potential problem or sign of distress, without having to increase the risk. I will also give kudos for calling 911. You may or may not have heard several years ago about a pro domme in the south shore MA area being investigated and tried because a client died(it's still unclear if accident or intentional) during unattended breathplay with her. She removed and burned the body, and thus no proper autopsy could be performed. After hearing/reading about that for the 3 months of media frenzy, I'm pretty sure I'll always be a bit more knee-jerk about pro domme slip-ups like this than I should.

That was the incident I was thinking of when i read the article. As much as anyone can or should knee jerk we should also take everything into acount. In many ways i dont care how dumb you were during a scene im more concerned how you took care of the mess afterwards. even a well done scene can go south and anyone can play Monday morning quaterback now instead of doing the same thing again lets see what really needs to be addressed

Once again agreeing that how a top deals with problems that come up is of essential importance, but a stitch in time saves nine. Two minutes of forethought in this situation would have saved two days of stories about it, as well as the outing of the client. I've been fortunate not to have a scene go horribly wrong because of that mentality. I've had scenes go fast in ugly directions, but it was those times of pre-planning and consideration that kept it from totally unspooling or putting someone in imminent physical danger. It's not about monday morning quarterbacking. It's about encouraging a mentality of consideration for one's play.

Hi, Claire! Hope all is well. :)

It sucks that it happened...
but it sucks more that the news got ahold of it.

*sigh* I agree. And, sadly, this is one of those instances where not only will the press play it up for all it's worth-at least until the next scandal comes along-it'll give a platform to some ninny who lives to interfere with what consenting adults do in their spare time.

Have a good day. :)

Your always so busy!
Nice to see a post though :)

I hate the media
I have issues with the news and rarely watch it,
it's annoying and depressing, I do pay attention, but only believe
some of it some of the time.
Anything they can say to make the "taboo" look bad is truly sad
Ignorance is a bad thing
